Move over violin! This captivating and technically dazzling young artist shows us the stunning musical magic that can be made with the essential but often overlooked double bass. Foley’s playing makes this largest and lowest member of the string family as important as any solo instrument.

Winner of a prestigious 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Foley also won the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and took first prizes at Astral’s 2014 National Auditions, Sphinx’s 2014 Competition and the 2011 International Society of Bassists Competition. Most recently, he was named to New York WQXR’s "19 for 19: Artists to Watch” list for 2019 and was featured on PBS Thirteen’s NYC-ARTs.

Pianist Kelly Lin is a sought-after accompanist whose groundbreaking collaborations with Foley have dazzled audiences and been hailed by critics for their “agile interplay between piano and bass,” as well as their “radical, riveting reinventions of old classics.”

“If you began to forget what instrument Xavier Foley was playing, it’s understandable. We’re just not used to hearing a double bass player so blissfully unaware that dazzling virtuosity is usually someone else’s job. Xavier Foley is a spectacular player, and also a right spark of a composer. He hears borders between styles as limitations best ignored.” – Peter Dobrin, The Philadelphia Inquirer
